About Me

Hi, I'm Aran—a current first-year undergraduate reading History and Spanish at Girton College, Cambridge. I had a fairly unconventional application process to Cambridge last year, and I’m interested in breaking down the barriers and assumptions associated with both the application process and the university experience itself. I’ve previously tutored at GCSE level and have supported students this year in my local area with university applications, so it’s a process I know fairly well.

My interests in my degree lie largely in intellectual history, or the history of ideas, as well as our understanding of ‘narrative’ in history. In Spanish, I enjoy everything from literature to recent Iberian history in the 20th century. Having niches in your subject is key to the Oxbridge application process, so I hope these can give you some ideas of where to start—although these interests are completely different from what I put on my personal statement! The most important thing, however—and what we will focus on—is building confidence in conversation for the interview.
